“I love the Sing it Girls original songs that we create.” – age 10
"My favourite part was being able to feel comfortable and safe sharing my thoughts/opinions." - age 12
"Sing it girls allows the girls to feel and express emotions, build friendships, and explore hard questions without the pressure to perform. The connection to voice and self is built, as well as the practice of just being present."

"Singing is the ultimate form of self expression for me, and for many. It's a physical release. It's a way to turn our feelings into art. It;s a way to express our stories in a way that captivates others. Singing in a group creates a community that is unlike any other - one that is formed by the collective breathing and voices from different people and coming together to create a singular beautiful thing. Sing it Girls creates this community for young people, and provides this safe space to explore singing as a truly incredible way to support mental health. As a society, we need to embrace art as a significant contributor to healthy coping and self expression, and Sing it Girls plants this seed into the minds and souls of young people. It's truly an honour to be able to provide this service to my community! "

"The part about Sing it Girls that feels so special to me is when the girls start to feel comfortable sharing and building rapport with each other. The group dynamic offers a space for girls to seek advice, validate, and normalize some of the challenging parts of becoming a young woman. I love how many different elements the program incorporates - from empowering songs, to breathwork, to expressive drumming. It's amazing to see what girls can do when given the tools to flourish."

What I love about the Sing It Girls program is that it recognizes that there is so much more to musical experience than this. The program not only teaches some of the basic skills for singing through vocal warmups, group singing, vocalization, and breathwork but it also delves into the deeper connection of how this interacts with our bodies and minds. It teaches the use of musicality in connection with expressing or managing challenging situations, in finding calmness and grounding, finding strength and empowerment, and simply to sing for the love of singing! It's a beautiful medley of learning, connection, and self expression that I just can't get enough of!
-Kim Dolan, Co-Owner Kingston
"Singing is more than just a hobby. For most, there are feelings and memories attached to certain songs and lyrics that we encounter throughout life. Moreover, the social and emotional connections we make with others while doing something creative is paramount to our development. The Sing It Girls groups have all of these elements and so much more. It is an inclusive space for girls from all walks of life to find their voice and feel confident about the young women they are becoming. We need more spaces like this and I'm so proud to be involved in this program. "

" I am very excited to start offering the Sing It Girls program in my region! A core belief of mine is that everyone has the capacity to build self-expression and make meaningful connections with others through shared music-making (especially through singing), and I feel that the Sing It Girls program truly embraces this philosophy. When I found out about Sing It Girls, the first thing I thought was that I wish the program had been around when I was younger (because it is definitely something I would have been all over!). Being a classically-trained vocalist, I have witnessed first-hand how limiting choir and other group music programs can be when they revolve solely around performance-based goals. I love the idea of facilitating a music program for girls that takes away the pressure of having to be "performance-ready" and instead focuses on building meaningful connections with peers and improving self-confidence and well-being, while simultaneously teaching basic vocal and breathing techniques. I believe that the Sing It Girls program will help fill a void in my community and I feel very grateful to have the opportunity to offer it over the coming years. "
